Description

This Orange Cake is a delightful treat with its irresistible citrus flavor and simple preparation. Made with fresh orange juice, butter, and fluffy eggs, it’s perfect for gatherings or a comforting dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • Zest from 1 navel orange
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup applesauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • ¼ tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a 9” cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sugar and orange zest, rubbing them together until fragrant. Add softened butter and beat until fluffy, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add eggs, milk, orange juice, applesauce, and vanilla to the mixture, blending well.
  4. In another bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients, stirring gently until the flour is just incorporated. Pour batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack.
  6. For the glaze, whisk together 2 tbsp of orange juice and ¼ tsp of vanilla, then add powdered sugar and whisk until smooth.
  7. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake, smoothing it out. Allow it to set before slicing and serving.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best mixing results.
Adjust baking time if using a different pan size to ensure doneness.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
