Description

Crockpot Sloppy Joes are a delightful mix of lean ground beef, savory spices, and rich sauces, all simmered to perfection. This simple recipe offers a hearty meal option that everyone will love—perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 ½ cups ketchup
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • Burger buns
  • Pickles
  • Shredded cheddar
  • Coleslaw

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it apart until fully cooked. Drain any excess grease if necessary.
  2. Add the finely diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until slightly softened, then add minced garlic for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker.
  4. In the slow cooker, stir in ketchup, tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or high for 2 to 3 hours until thick and flavorful.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. If too loose, cook uncovered on high for 15 to 20 minutes to thicken.
  7. Serve warm on toasted buns with your choice of toppings.

Notes

You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
Customize your toppings with avocado or other vegetables for added flavor.
For a spicier kick, add extra crushed red pepper flakes.
