- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup butter (unsalted)
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- salt and pepper (to taste)
- 2 teaspoons italian seasoning
- ½ cup white wine (such as sauvignon blanc)
- 1½ cups heavy cream
- 1 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water and drain.
- In a large skillet, add the olive oil and butter and melt over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until aromatic.
- Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Stir in white wine and let simmer for about 3 minutes.
- Add the heavy cream and bring to a boil.
- Stir in the reserved ½ cup of pasta water and let simmer for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Remove the skillet from heat.
- Stir in the grated parmesan cheese until well mixed.
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss well to combine.
- Garnish with additional parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes.
Notes
For a lighter option, reduce the amount of butter and cream used.
This dish pairs well with a side salad or garlic bread.
