Description
Treat yourself to these delicious Caramel Apple Trifles! This recipe combines the tartness of granny smith apples, the sweetness of caramel, and lightness of Cool Whip for a satisfying indulgence that’s quick to prepare and ideal for gatherings or cozy nights in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 granny smith apples
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- pinch of nutmeg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 12 ounces pound cake
- 8 ounces cool whip
- 6 tablespoons caramel sauce
Instructions
- Peel and chop the apples into small cubes. Toss them into a medium saucepan with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar, stirring well.
- Simmer the mixture over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the apples soften and the sugar creates a caramel-like syrup. Set aside to cool.
- Cut the pound cake into bite-sized cubes. Prepare a piping bag or zip-top bag with the Cool Whip.
- Assemble the trifle by layering pound cake cubes at the bottom of serving glasses. Add a layer of the apple mixture followed by caramel sauce and a layer of Cool Whip.
- Repeat the layering: pound cake, apples, caramel, and Cool Whip. Drizzle caramel on top before serving. Enjoy fresh or refrigerate.
Notes
For added flavor, consider using a mix of apples.
Make ahead: Keep components separate and assemble just before serving for the best texture.
You can substitute Cool Whip with homemade whipped cream if preferred.
