Description

  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 10 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 cups cubed bread
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup diced red pepper optional
  • sliced green onion optional

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9x13x2-inch casserole dish.
  2. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until no longer pink.
  3. Whisk together eggs, milk, and salt in a large bowl until combined.
  4. Layer half of the bread in the dish, followed by half of the cheese, black pepper, red pepper, and sausage. Repeat the layers.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the casserole evenly.
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight, or bake immediately.
  7. Preheat the oven to 325°F when ready to bake.
  8. Bake uncovered for 60-75 minutes, or until the eggs are set, covering loosely with foil if browning too quickly.
  9. Sprinkle with sliced green onions if desired and serve warm.
