Description
These apple turnovers made with puff pastry are filled with soft, caramelized apples and flavored with cinnamon. Perfect for dessert or a sweet snack!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed
- 1 tbsp butter
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored & diced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 egg + 1 tbsp water
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Thaw the puff pastry according to instructions while preparing the apple filling.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened.
- Lower the heat and mix in the brown sugar and cinnamon. Simmer for 3 minutes until apples are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat to cool.
- Dust the counter with flour and roll the first sheet of thawed puff pastry into an 11" square. Cut into 4 equal squares.
- Place a portion of the cooled apple mixture on half of each square, maintaining a 1/2" border.
- Whisk the egg and water together to create an egg wash. Brush it lightly along the edges of the pastry to seal them together. Crimp the edges with a fork.
- Repeat the process with the second sheet of puff pastry.
- Arrange the turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced 1" apart. Cut 2-3 small slits on top of each turnover to prevent leaking during baking.
- Brush the tops with the egg wash and bake for 20-22 minutes or until they are golden and puffed up.
- To create the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until the desired consistency is reached. Drizzle glaze over the baked turnovers.
Notes
Ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed for easier handling.
You can use different types of apples to create unique flavors.
