Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
- ½ cup strawberry jam, other flavors also work
- 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
- 1 tbsp milk, any type works
- 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together using a mixer until smooth, about 1 minute.
- Unfold the puff pastry sheets and lay them on the baking sheet, keeping the middle section intact for the filling.
- Cut 1-inch strips on both sides of the pastry sheet starting from the fold, making sure to keep them connected in the center.
- Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the center section of each pastry sheet.
- Mix strawberry jam with optional zest and place it over the cream cheese filling, using about ¼ cup per pastry.
- Take the top outer strips of each pastry and fold them over the center in a V shape, repeating with the next set of strips until all are folded and look braided.
- Brush the top of each Danish with milk and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown on top.
- Let cool for 15 minutes before preparing the glaze.
- For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until thick yet pourable. Adjust as needed.
- Pour glaze over the cooled Danish, allow it to set, slice, and serve.
Notes
Ensure cream cheese is softened for easy mixing.
Feel free to substitute the strawberry jam with other fruit jams for variety.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
