Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup oats
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ¼ cup milk
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 onion, sliced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- ½ cup red wine
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the beef, oats, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and milk until well combined. Form into 4 oval patties, about ½-inch thick. Place on a parchment-lined tray, cover loosely, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
- In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, approximately 3 minutes per side. Remove patties and transfer to a plate.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in the sliced mushrooms and salt, cooking for an additional 5 minutes. Mix in the tomato paste and flour, cooking for 2 minutes more. Gradually stir in the broth and red wine, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
- Return the browned patties to the skillet, cover, and reduce the heat to medium-low. Cook for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through. Adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper as necessary.
Notes
Chilling the patties before cooking helps them hold their shape while frying.
Feel free to use beef broth instead of red wine for a non-alcoholic version.
Serve with mashed potatoes or your favorite side for a complete meal.
