Scale
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 100 degrees f)
- 1 packet yeast (active dry, instant, or quick rise- 2.25 teaspoons)
- 1 ½ teaspoons fine grain salt (preferably not iodized)
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour, plus more for dusting

- Add flour to the mixture and stir until a sticky dough forms, adjusting with more flour or water as needed.
- Cover the bowl and let it rise in a warm spot for 2-3 hours until doubled in size.
- After rising, preheat your oven to 450 degrees F with the Dutch oven inside.
- Shape the dough into a loaf on parchment paper and transfer it into the preheated Dutch oven.
- Cover and bake for 35 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove the bread from the Dutch oven and let it cool before slicing.
Notes
If the dough is too wet, add flour gradually; if too dry, add water gradually.
The bread benefits from resting before slicing to improve texture.
Feel free to score the top of the loaf for a decorative touch before baking.
